Text-based RPGs, interactive storytelling and tables looking for players; worlds built together, one reply at a time.
Roleplay on Telegram runs from real-time text RPGs to tabletop games adapted to chat. There are freeform groups where everyone plays their own character, system-specific tables with a game master running things, looking-for-players rooms to fill a campaign, and collaborative-writing communities. The engine is always shared imagination.
Before you join, read the tone: a serious epic-fantasy table is nothing like a lighthearted adventure one. Check the expected posting pace (some tables run several messages a day, others are slow-burn), the system they use and whether they welcome newcomers. A good table explains its rules before you roll the first die.
Roleplay has unwritten rules worth respecting: separate what your character says from what you think (IC and OOC), don't puppet someone else's character, and don't hog the scene. Above all, agree on limits: sensitive topics, violence or romance only if everyone is comfortable. Consent outranks the plot, always.
The usual slips are metagaming (using knowledge your character doesn't have), the invincible character who never fails, and mixing player arguments into the fiction. A healthy table fixes this through conversation, not drama. Show up to add to the story, not to win it.
The best character isn't the most powerful, it's the one that gives others something to work with. Give them flaws, doubts and clear motivations; a flawless hero with no cracks gets dull in two scenes. Write just enough for others to react to (leaving hooks is an art) and respond to what they propose instead of following only your own script. In text roleplay, sharing the spotlight and reacting generously is what turns a session into a story everyone wants to keep going. A short, vivid post that hands someone else a clear opening will always beat a long monologue nobody can respond to.
